Bernard G. "Mac" McGinnis, 84, Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2007.
Mac was born in Topeka on August 24, 1923, the son of Melvin and Esther (Peterson) McGinnis. He was preceded in death by a sister, LaVerna Jean, who died shortly after birth.
Mac attended Topeka schools, graduating from Topeka High School in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Army from January 6, 1944 to March 16, 1946 in the 35th Division, 137th Infantry.
Mac married Violet M. Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Topeka, Kansas on February 3, 1952. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family in 2002. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2003.
Mac retired from the VA Hospital as Chief of Medical Media in 1980 after 38 years of federal service.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Orient Lodge #51 and Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by three sons, David and wife, Cindy, Topeka; Larry and his wife, Mary, of Tecumseh; Dean McGinnis, Topeka, and four grandchildren, Sara, Michael, Emily and Brian.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. He will lie in state after 3:00p.m. on Thursday, where family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00p.m.
