Ava Rose Jordan

Ava Rose Jordan, age 20, passed away in an accident on July 27, 2024. Ava was a beloved daughter, big sister, extended family member, and friend, and she loved her family and friends in return. Ava will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile, natural grace, kindness, independence, and devotion to her sister Mae (17).

Ava was born March 25, 2004 in Emporia, Kansas to parents Brian C. and Amy (Sell) Jordan. Ava attended ESU Center for Early Childhood Education and Timmerman Elementary in Emporia. In 2012, her family moved to Topeka where she attended Berryton Elementary and Shawnee Heights High School. At SHHS she was a cellist in the orchestra and a member of the National Honor Society, the cross-country team, and the swim team. She excelled in her study of Spanish, which led her to travel to Costa Rica to experience the Central American culture. She graduated from SHHS with honors in 2022.

A member of the Riverside 4-H club, Ava competed with the Shawnee County Horticultural Judging Team that won the state contest in 2019. She played cello in the Topeka Youth Symphony and swam competitively with the Wood Valley Swim Club. After high school, Ava attended the University of Kansas to study architecture, then transferred to Washburn University. At the time of her passing, Ava was pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Ava was intelligent, creative, and driven. She had a love of cooking and the outdoors, and she had great taste in music and art. She recognized and nurtured beauty in all parts of her life, adopting her cat Keanu, raising tropical plants, and collecting a wide variety of artwork. Ava enjoyed good coffee and was a hardworking barista at the Classic Bean in Topeka. She dreamed of owning her own coffee shop with her sister at her side.

Ava was preceded in death by grandparents; Barbara L Sell (Topeka) and Carl Jordan (Glen Elder).

She is survived by her parents, sister and best friend Mae Lillian Jordan, grandparents; Philip Sell (Topeka) and Sharon Jordan (Glen Elder). Aunts; Shawna Jordan (Manhattan) and Erin Sell Myers (Berryton), uncle; Brady Myers, and cousins; Jacob and Ella Myers. She will forever be loved and missed by these and countless more.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday August 2, 2024 at 1420 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, Kansas 66604.

Memorial Services will be at 10:30am, Saturday August 3, 2024 at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Ave, Topeka, KS 66605.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to: Shawnee Heights Public School Foundation, c/o Ava Jordan Memorial Scholarship Fund, please send to USD 450, 4401 SE Shawnee Heights Road, Tecumseh, Kansas 66542.
