Arthur Lee Payne, 85, Topeka, passed away on Monday, January 7th, 2008 in Seneca, Kansas.
Arthur was born July 3, 1923 in Owensboro, Kentucky, the son of Severius and Nellie Marie (Whelan) Payne.
He proudly served in the US Army for 31 years, and was a veteran of WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War. He retired in 1973 after 31 years of service with the rank of First Sergeant.
Arthur married Julia B. Freiling in Germany in 1950. They divorced in 1971. He married Soon Yo Im in 1973. She died in 2002. Survivors include son; Stephen C. Payne, Seneca; daughter, Sylvia M. Payne, Indianapolis, IN; step-sons, Erich Von Stauffenberg, Haines, AK and Sung Jeon Hur, Topeka; and 1 grandson, Arthur Lee Hur, Lawrence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Arthur will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
