She was born on February 17, 1939 to Erwin Leslie and Erma Blanche (Feaster) Meeks in Canton, Illinois. She attended Washington High School in Washington, Illinois and furthered her business education in San Diego California, graduating in 1960.
She married Richard A. Widdell on September 2, 1961. They lived in Pekin, Illinois then moved to Topeka in 1971. They shared 33 years of marriage before Richard’s death in 1994.
Constance worked as an Assistant Director at Crestview Community Center for over 20 years before retiring. After her retirement, she decided to continue working for the City of Topeka, helping to operate the mini train station in Gage Park.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka where she enjoyed worshipping and taking part in service projects. She also enjoyed creating unique greeting cards for all occasions, working in her garden and spending time with her family. Her great enjoyment in love and life was her constant companion of 16 years, Coco her dog.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as 9 brothers and 2 sisters.
Constance is survived by her son; Greg Widdell, daughter; Shirley Widdell, granddaughters Jennifer Honeycutt of Chicago, Illinois and Kristen (Derek) Smith of Hutchinson, Kansas; and great-grandson Declan Smith. She is also survived by many friends, her extended Meeks family in Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at Penwell Gabel Midtown Chapel on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 10:30 AM with visitation beginning an hour prior to service, burial to follow at Rochester Cemetery.
