Carmon “Mac” McGhee, 85, of Denison, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023.

He was born October 24, 1937, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Louis and May (Garrett) Bowman. He attended Burlington High School. Mac joined the United States Navy when he was 17. He stationed on several Naval Ships, including USS Bolster, USS Hancock and USS Bonhomme Richard. He served for 15 years and was honorably discharged in 1969.

Mac married Genevieve Mabel Laboy and they had five children, George, Katy, Maxine, Glenn and Laurie. She passed away in 1983. He later married Diane Miglionico on January 19, 1993 in Oklahoma.

After leaving the military, Mac worked for the City Refuse Department as a mechanic. He later was a self-employed mechanic. He spent many years working and tinkering on various cars. He kept a very clean and tidy garage and being a mechanic was a true passion for Mac.

Mac enjoyed grabbing a good double cheeseburgers from the Prize Package. He also enjoyed hunting and breaking horses when he was younger.

Survivors include his children, George McGhee, Glenn McGhee, Laurie Pannell and Alan Miglionico; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Maxine McGhee and Katy Ohse; wife, Diane; parents and his aunt, Maxine.

A memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm., Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66604. His family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society 5720 SW 21st, Topeka, KS 66604.
