James “Jim” Pearson, 66, of Berryton, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023.

He was born September 7, 1956, in Fort Davis, Texas, the son of Ralph and Rosella (Becker) Pearson. He graduated from Lutheran High School South in 1975. After high school, Jim went to Rankin Technical School and earned his Diesel Mechanic Degree.

Jim married Debra "Debbie" J. Nesbitt on June 5, 1982 in Topeka, Kansas. To their union in marriage, they welcomed their son, Daniel.

He was employed by Martin Tractor Company for 31 years, and served the company in multiple capacities. He started as a Diesel Mechanic and worked his way up to be coming a Supervisor and Manager of the Industrial Division. He retired in 2008.

He was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing at Clinton Lake and Council Grove, hunting, shooting guns and camping. He spent time with his wife, Debbie and son, Dan at the Lake of the Ozarks and exploring Colorado. In addition to enjoying the outdoors, he loved working and tinkering on cars and restored his Bronco as a hobby. Jim was a Chiefs Football, KU Basketball and St. Louis Cardinals and Royals Baseball fan. He knew his way around the smoker and grill and enjoyed BBQ’ing. His biggest pride and joy were his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Jim will be remembered as a lovable teddy bear, who was generous and kind to everyone.

He is survived by his wife, Debra "Debbie" J. Pearson; son, Daniel "Dan" Pearson; two grandchildren Evalyn "Eva" Pearson and Cameron Pearson and one sister, Vicki (Bill) Overman of Washington, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents of Gerald, MO.

A memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm., Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66604. His family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. In Jim's honor, the family asks that you wear your favorite sports team shirt or jersey and dress casual. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you send memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, PO Box 13067, Alexandria, VA 22312 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
