He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara (Bennett) Lay; daughter, Pam Lay; son, John Lay; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was born November 3, 1934, in Jasper, Alabama. Jim was employed with Santa Fe Railroad, retiring after 33 years.
Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening. His greatest joys were his wife and family. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Visitation will begin at 9 am followed by funeral services at 11 am on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka.
