1933 - 2022

Charles "Chuck" F. Urban, 88, of Berryton, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022.

He was born December 3, 1933, in Clay County, Kansas, the son of John and Mary (Gunter) Urban. His father, John, passed away 12 days prior to Chuck’s birth. He was raised by his mother and older siblings. Chuck was active in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Morganville High School. Chuck served four years in the United States Navy. He attended Kansas University and was an avid KU Jayhawk Basketball fan.

Chuck was an Engineer EA6 for the Kansas Department of Transportation. He started his employment in Clay Center, Kansas, transferring to Topeka, Kansas, where he retired after 35 years as a dedicated employee.

Chuck and Marlene Hornbostel were married on November 22, 1958 in Palmer, KS. In their marriage, they welcomed two children, Charles and Kristine. They celebrated 63 years of marriage.

He and Marlene loved to travel and collect antiques; clocks, early military memorabilia and toys were some of his favorites.

He and his wife are members of Faith Lutheran Church, of Topeka. Over the years Chuck was active in various capacities in the church and enjoyed being a Sunday worship greeter. He enjoyed his small group Bible study and morning devotions with his wife.

Chuck was a loving father and always enjoyed being with family. He loved being outdoors and doing the yard work.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene Urban; children, Charles "Chuck" (Sharon) Urban and Kristine (Mike Huss) Urban; sister in law, Dorothy Urban and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, George Urban, Fred Urban, Alvin Urban, Betty Bechard, Clarence Urban and Scharlotte Knitter.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS 66604. His family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In his honor, memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Lutheran School, 701 SW Roosevelt Street, Topeka, KS 66604, the Combat Air Museum, 7016 SE Forbes Avenue, Topeka, KS 66619 or to Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66604.
