Richard A. McKinsey, 79, of Topeka, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Midland Hospice House.

He was born July 24, 1943, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Dick and Aletha (Ayers) McKinsey. Richard grew up in Holton, Kansas and was a proud graduate of Holton High School. He served in the United States Army. After returning home from the Army, he attended Clark’s Business School.

Richard was employed by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe as a Supervisor of Information Systems for 34 years, retiring in October 1, 1996.

He was a faithful 50 year member of the United Methodist Faith and was a current member of Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church, of Topeka. He enjoyed being part of the adult bible study group and ROMEO “Retired Old Men Eating Out” group.

Richard was also a member of the Holton Country Club and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed coaching his children’s little league teams and was a supporter of the Silver Lake High School Athletics. He was an avid reader.

Richard married Sherry “Lynn” Fockele on August 10, 1968 in Holton, Kansas. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn McKinsey; two children, Karri (Mark) Kuhls and Chris (Tabitha) McKinsey and four grandchildren, Tanner McKinsey, Jordan McKinsey, Eliana Schwark and Isabella Schwark. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Galen McKinsey and Letha French.

His family will greet friends on Wednesday, August 31 from 5:00pm -7:00pm at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66604. A funeral service will be at 11:00am on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church 7433 SW 29th St, Topeka, KS 66614. Private interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. The church will live stream the service.
