Gwendolyn "Gwen" Holmes
1926 - 2022

Gwendolyn (Gwen) Sand Holmes passed into heaven on June 17, 2022 after 95 years of bringing light to this world. She was born on December 23, 1926 to Seward A. and Gertrude (Morris) Sand in Lockport, New York. While at Kansas State University studying dietetics, she met Richard W. Holmes of Wichita. They were married in 1950 and Gwen embraced living in Kansas (Wichita and Topeka) from that time forward. They had two sons, Robert W. Holmes, MD (Carolynn) and David K. Holmes, J.D. (GwenCarol) as well as grandchildren Nicholas, Scott Robert, Rebecca, Genevieve, and Daniel and four great-grandchildren. Gwen was proceeded in death by her parents, her five brothers, and her husband Richard.

Gwen was known for her incredible graciousness, hosting skills, doting on her grandchildren, and her love for her Lord and Savior. Over the years she participated in and hosted numerous Bible studies and was a faithful member of Central Christian Church (Wichita) and Topeka Bible Church (Topeka). Gwen made friends everywhere she went and was active in numerous service groups including Jaycee Janes, Wichita Bar Auxiliary, PEO Chapter HG, and Christian Women’s Club. She took great pleasure and care in hosting parties and family dinners. She was always trying to feed people and if you went away from her house hungry, it was your own fault.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Topeka Bible Church Mission Scholarship Fund at 1135 SW College Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66604 or the Kansas State University Foundation supporting the Dietetics Department.
