In Memory Of
Cyrella June Birtell
1933 - 2022
She was born June 12, 1933, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Clifford and Gladys (Derringer) Handley. She graduated from Auburn High School, proud though, to have attended her freshman year at Topeka High School.
Cyrella enjoyed taking care of her children. You could find her out in the garden or inside cooking. Her favorite (and her families) was her homemade rolls. She was also a very talented seamstress. She also loved crocheting, knitting, and ceramics.
She had a deep love for her family. She cherished her time with her family and absolutely adored her grandchildren. She had a way of making everything okay; a very generous and loving person.
Cyrella had a strong love for her faith. She was an active member at Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship. She was also proud of working outside the home. She worked at the Supply Depot, Blue Cross, and eventually retired with the State of Kansas. Her and her husband, Ted enjoyed traveling; some of their favorite were their trips to Hawaii and Alaska.
Cyrella married Theodore “Ted” John Birtell on June 1, 1952 in Auburn, Kansas at the Auburn Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2020. Survivors include her children; Carla Clark of Topeka, Ronda (Jimmy) Wolf of Topeka, Sonja (Harry) Wilson of Raymore, MO, and Randall (Rovonne) Birtell of Topeka; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Theodore “Ted” John Birtell; grandson, Christopher Cornell and brothers, Charles and Joe Handley.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Penwell-Gabel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
A Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022 at the Simerwell Cemetery in Auburn, Kansas; approximately one mile East of Wanamaker Road and 85th Street on the Northside.
