Duzel D. Yates of Topeka, Kansas, died quietly at his home May 17, 2022. He was 81 years old. Duzel was born February 10, 1941, to Jesse and Irene (Watler) Yates, at West Bay, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands in the British West Indies.
Duzel attended Cayman High School then came to the United States for post-secondary education. He graduated with honors from Geneva College (Beaver Falls, PA) with a degree in economics and business administration and worked as an accountant following graduation, earning certification as a CPA. He came to live in Topeka in the early 1980’s and worked for the Kansas Corporation Commission until his retirement.
Duzel professed faith in Jesus Christ early in life, and while in Topeka served faithfully as an Elder of the Christ Church PCA and as a Deacon and Treasurer of the Topeka Reformed Presbyterian Church. It was through the church that he met Marjorie S. Curry. Marjorie and Duzel were married on April 20, 1991.
Duzel was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Irene Yates, and his wife, Marjorie. He is survived by a brother, Victor Yates and his wife Leda, a sister Claudette Eden and her husband Crosby, two nephews and two nieces, all of the Cayman Islands.
Duzel was buried at the Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Winchester, Kansas, in a private ceremony. A memorial service commemorating Duzel’s life will be announced at a later date.
