He was born on July 20, 1938, in rural Republic County of Kansas to Irvin Dean and Verda May (Beck) Florea. He graduated from Belleville High School in 1958.
Early in life, Gerald responded to God’s call to his own heart and remained true to that calling until the time of his death. On September 4, 1975, Gerald married Martha Jean Craig in Topeka, Kansas in the home of Helen Rohm. They made their home in Topeka for the next 46 years before moving to Rogers, Arkansas in June 2021.
Gerald worked for the road department of Republic County for 10 years. After marrying Martha and moving to Topeka, he worked at Menninger Foundation in the maintenance department for 22 years. Gerald then started his own lawn mowing business which he worked at until his retirement.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Martha, as well as his brother, Verle of Concordia, Kansas as well as 11 nephews and nieces that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Shirley Florea, and two brothers, Marvin and Dennis Florea.
The services for Gerald will be on the 19th of November at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66604. There will be a visitation at 9:00 am followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606 or to NWA Circle of Life Hospice, 1201 NE Legacy Parkway, Bentonville, AR 72712.
