Judy Kay (Stone) Wunder
1941 - 2021

Judy Kay (Stone) Wunder went to meet her maker on September 27th, 2021 at Stormont Vail Health, Topeka, Kansas. She passed away quietly with her husband, Dr. Gene C. Wunder, by her side. Judy and Gene met on December 4th, 1960 on a blind date and were married at First Methodist Church Iowa City, Iowa on December 16th, 1966. Judy is survived by her husband Gene, daughters Lara Wunder and Sara Wunder Steward, son-in-law Spencer Steward, and three grandsons Nicholas, Tyler, and Charles Steward of Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by several cousins around the country.

Judy was born July 24th, 1941 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Vivian (Fields) and Charles Stone. She graduated Marshalltown High School in 1959. Judy received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in 1964 and graduate degree from Truman State (formerly Northeast Missouri State) in 1981. Judy belonged to the University of Iowa, Truman State, University of Arkansas, and University of Missouri Alumni Associations.

Judy was a medical technologist (ASPC) serving as the blood bank supervisor at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Later she taught at Northeast Missouri State University in the animal health technology program. Judy spent many years as a stay-at-home mother and a volunteer to her community. Judy was a member of the Topeka Family and Community Education (FCE), Day Trippers, and Newcomers Travel Group. Judy enjoyed playing golf, swimming, and bridge. She frequented the YMCA’s water exercise classes and the Sherwood, Tuesday afternoon, and Wednesday night bridge groups. Judy and her husband, Gene, were international travelers and spent summers and Christmas vacations to various parts of the world.

Judy was a doting wife, a marvelous mother, an exceptional grandma, and a loyal friend who will be very much missed. Judy’s personal wishes were carried out and a Celebration of Life Visitation will be held 2pm-4pm at the Dove Cremation and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS 66610 on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021.
