Eva Jean Young of Topeka, passed away on September 14, 2021, at the age of 98.

She was born September 3, 1923 in Junction City, Kansas to Fred and Mary (St. Louis) Filiatreault. She was preceded by her of husband of 54 years, Kenneth Leland Young (1911-2002).

Eva grew up in Osawatomie, Kansas, where she graduated from Osawatomie High School, and enjoyed participating in the arts. She loved being on stage and was an accomplished pianist. She was crowned Miss Osawatomie in 1941 and participated in the Miss Kansas pageant that year.

She married Kenneth Young on February 28, 1948 in Topeka, Kansas, then worked primarily as a secretary for the Kansas Legislature for many years. In her later years, she was active in the Topeka Women’s Club, participating in many community charity events.

She was a very adventurous person who loved to travel and meet new people. Her family remembers her infectious laugh and many dinner parties she and Ken hosted at their home.

She is survived by her brother, Don Filiatreault of Topeka, Kansas; three children, Clint (Leah) of Shawnee, Kansas, Stacy of Topeka, Kansas, and Marlena (Renee Harris) of San Diego, California; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Women’s Club, 5221 SW West Dr., Topeka, Kansas 66606.
