Shirley Elrene Solis, 89, of Topeka, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021.

She was born October 8, 1931, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Silas and Pauline (Douglas) Smith. She graduated from Topeka High School.

She was a strong woman. She enjoyed spending time with her family and greatly appreciated her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She cherished family picnics and spending holidays with them.

She enjoyed bowling, camping in her RV, dancing, crocheting and watching birds. She loved spending time in her garden working with her flowers.

Shirley married Joseph Solis in September of 1949. He preceded her in death in January of 1994.

Survivors include her children, Debbi (Leland) Kling, Laura Walden, Jerry (Pam) Solis, Janet (Bob) DeWitt, Diane (Tim) Harrington, and Lisa (Kirk) Perkuhn; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; cousin, Phyllis and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Anita Schultz and Ginny Wendt, grandchild, Shawna and great-grandchild, Joseph and great-great grandchild, Ezra.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.

A Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Rd., Topeka.
