James "Jim" "Gus" Edward Roberts, 74, of Topeka, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021.

He was born August 21, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of John and Catherine (Domme) Roberts. He attended Hayden High School.

Jim was employed at Laird Noller as Parts Manager for many years. He later worked for Hall Lithographing and then was self-employed until he retired in 2010.

He enjoyed collecting knives, telling stories and jokes, watching political debates, and bird watching. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and didn’t know a stranger.

Jim married Janis Roberts on December 17, 1973 in Oklahoma. Survivors include his wife; his children, Kimberly Roberts, Timothy Roberts, Christopher Roberts, Sean Roberts, Michael Roberts; 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; his siblings Marge Calvin, Ronnie Roberts, Frank Roberts, Ralph Roberts; ex-wife, Theresa (Walsh) Massey and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Roberts, Jr.; siblings, Delores Boyle, Betty Myrick, John Roberts, and Jeanette Smith.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the celebration. Cremation will follow the ceremony and burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.
