Maxine Horton, of Sedalia, passed away at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia MO. She was born on December 27, 1924, in Topeka, KS a daughter of Benjamin C. Vowels and Edith (Winkler) Vowels, who preceded her in death.

On October 31, 1943, in Topeka, KS she was united in marriage to Dean Horton, who resides in the home. They were married for over 77 years.

Maxine was in food services for the public schools in Topeka for 28 years and retired from Topeka 501 School District as Food Service Manager at Topeka West High School. She was a lifelong member of the First Assembly of God Church in Topeka. Maxine enjoyed crocheting. She crocheted afghans for just about every member of her family. She especially loved spending time with her family and taking her grandchildren on vacations all across the country every year.

In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, T. Dean Horton (Linda) of Raleigh, NC and Larry Horton (Sharon) of Sedalia; a son-in-law, Jim Spetter of Berryton, KS; seven grandchildren, Terri, Lisa, Tiffany, Traci, Amy, Lori Ann, and Troy; and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Deana Dale Spetter; a brother, Benjamin Vowels; three sisters, Bernice Streeter, Annabelle Neely, and Maurine Paramino; and a nephew, Richard Paramino, who she helped raise as her own son.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021, with funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m. all at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Swendson officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie Michael, Jim Spetter, Gary Horton, Robert Horton, Troy Spetter, and John Streeter.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3625 SW 29th St #102, Topeka, KS 66614.
