Miguel Lerma, 93, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 at St Francis Hospital.

He was born September 29, 1927, in San Francisco de Oro, Chihuahua, Mexico, the son of Luis and Aurora (Ramirez) Lerma. He had two sisters, Guadalupe and Maria Luisa, both deceased.

Miguel was a talented brick mason for over 40 years, and came to Kansas because of a job, bringing his family from El Paso, Texas in 1969.

Survivors include his children, Martha Lerma (Douglas Lobdell), Michael Lerma (Stephanie Ayer), Maria (Lisa) Watts (Steve), Monica Denton (Bradley) and Melinda Lerma; honorary adopted son, Shane Watson; as well as 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

He liked watching baseball, football, boxing, soccer and golf. He was an avid reader, who especially loved history. He enjoyed music and was a good dancer. He also enjoyed playing card games, dominoes and occasionally going to the casino. He was great at telling jokes and loved to make people laugh. He had an incredible memory and would recall many events, people and places from his past and would share those stories with us. He will be greatly missed by his family, compadres and comadres, and friends, to include Virginia Lara, Rosie Mendoza, and Javier Escalante.

Visitation will begin at 9am, followed by a rosary at 9:30am, and Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 201 NE Chandler, Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604.
