Frederick “Erick” William Benke IV, 34, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 28, 2020.

Erick was born on February 6, 1986 in Topeka, son of Frederick “Rick” W. Benke III and Darla Benke.

He graduated from Topeka High School in 2004, where he played football, track, and wrestled. Erick was also part of the marching and jazz band.
After high school, Erick attended Washburn University, where he was part of the football team. He loved sports, fishing, and camping with his children. He was working as an apprentice electrician through the apprentice electrician program at IBEW in Topeka. He was a member of the Local Union 226.

Erick is preceded in death by his grandparents, Dale E. Johnson, Frederick W. Benke Jr., and Margaret Benke.

He is survived by his two children, Frederick “Derick” W. Benke V, Layla Benke, and their mother, Sarah Olson all of Silver Lake; his parents Frederick “Rick” W. Benke III and Darla Benke of Topeka; grandmother, Demaris Johnson of Topeka; sisters, Brooke De La O (Ricardo) and Jenifer Benke all of Topeka; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and one niece.

Erick will lie in state on Monday, September 7, 2020 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
