She was born December 15, 1928, in Cheney, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Emma (Lungwitz) Oehlert. She graduated from Yates Center High School. After graduating, she went to Arkansas City Beauty School and obtained her cosmetology license.
Vera went on to work for the Kansas Department of Transportation as a clerk and later retired.
She was an active member of the St. John’s Evangelical Church of Topeka, Kansas.
Vera spent much of her life on the golf course. Golfing was one of her greatest passions. She enjoyed traveling to different courses around the United States and was a member of the Kansas Women’s Golfing Association. She also enjoyed gardening, especially wildflowers, and learned to belly dance as a way to stay
active.
Vera married Earl McFaddin on November 8, 1954 in Winfield, Kansas .He preceded her in death on June 29, 1989. Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Honoring Vera's wishes cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore, Topeka, Kansas 66606. The family will greet guests one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 901 SW Filmore, Topeka, Kansas 66606 or Topeka Lutheran Schools, 701 SW Roosevelt St, Topeka, KS 66606.
