Arlene (Hanson) Knodel, 93, of Topeka, passed away Monday, June 1, 2020.

She was born March 12, 1927, in Rural Gann Valley, South Dakota, the daughter of Lewis and Lillie (Marshall) Hanson. Arlene graduated from Pierre High school in 1946 and later attended Rapid City Technical College and obtained her Associate Degree.

Arlene was employed by the South Dakota State University where she worked as an Administrative Assistant.

Arlene was a very active member in the community. She served as Stewardess with United Methodist Church, a life time member of the VFW Auxiliary, a Den Mother for Boy Scouts, and was a volunteer librarian at McCarter Elementary. Orval and Arlene spent a lot of time bowling and dancing together over the years.

Arlene married Orval A. Knodel on May 2, 1948 in Pierre, SD, he survives. Other survivors include daughters, Connie Knodel, Debra Guay, and Elaine (Mark) Gingrich; Son, Orval A. Knodel, II; eight Grandchildren; twelve Great- Grandchildren and four Great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Bill Guay; Grandson, John Orval Guay; Grandson in Law, Dwayne Sebo and all of her siblings.

A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at the Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Palliative and Hospice Care, 6828 Silverheel Street, Shawnee, Kansas 66226.
