Geraldine “Geri” Havens Goldstein, 92, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born January 6, 1928 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of John Edward and Margaret Ortiz Havens.

Geraldine’s job experience began with the telephone company as an operator which she loved. From there she ran the Arthur Murray’s Dance studios in Houston TX., worked for the Institute for the Blind, Kansas City Chapter, performed Public Relations and interviews for Jaqueline Crummitt Agency KC KS, retail sales at Calhoun’s Department Store, Richards Distributors, and lastly as Proprietress at Goldstein’s Deli in Topeka.

Geri married Lawrence Goldstein March 2, 1950 at Houston, Texas. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2002. Survivors include three sons,
John Goldstein, Parkville MO,
Tom Goldstein, Florida
Keith Goldstein, Lawrence KS
and one daughter
Laura Martin-Eagle, Lawrence KS
Seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Rod Castano.

Geri was very involved with her Temple. She served on the religious services committee, social action committee, mitzvah committee, office volunteer, membership committee chairperson, adopted grandparent in religious school, Women’s Chavurah. She held Sukka parties and Havdala services and parties at her home.

Her social justice activities included Let’s Help, Doorstep, Breakthrough House, League of Women Voters and Meals on Wheels which she delivered for 10 years.
She was also involved with scouts when her children were young.
She created the Interfaith of Topeka board for 4 years and was in charge of the Diversity Council.

She was awarded the Lawrence T. Litwin award in 2013 for her service to greater Topeka community by Temple Beth Shalom.
