Norbert Rungano
1994 - 2019

Norbert Rungano, a civil engineer, lifelong learner, Jesus follower, and resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma—died on Nov. 13, 2019 surrounded by family and friends at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas after sustaining fatal injuries from a tragic car accident.

Norbert was born in Kigali, Rwanda on Dec. 1, 1994 to Denis Rutamu and Beatrice Akimana. After graduating high school from APE Rugunga in Kigali, Rwanda, he received the prestigious Rwandan Presidential Scholarship to pursue his bachelor’s degree in the US. He graduated in 2017 with honors from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) with a degree in Civil and Construction Engineering. Since then, he had been working as a project designer for McClelland Consulting Engineers, Inc. in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Norbert lived a selfless life of integrity by trying to do the right thing always. He was a lifelong learner who loved reading, traveling, hiking, playing soccer, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. He had a passion for helping others and he regularly donated a significant portion of his income to support others. He was a quick wit, a good listener, and had a gift for finding the funny in almost any situation. He dreamed of transforming education in Africa, starting in his home country of Rwanda.

Norbert is survived by his sister, Denyse Tumugire, four brothers: Romalice Rebero, Romain Gabiro, Romeo Shimiro, and Norman Sangano; and his brother-in-law, Norbert Gatera, all of whom live in Kigali, Rwanda. He is preceded in death by his mother Beatrice and father Denis.

Arrangements are being made with the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and his final resting place will be at the Rusororo Cemetery in Rwanda.

A celebration of Rungano's life will be held Saturday, November 23rd at 3:00 pm in the chapel at Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock, 1401 Kirk Rd., Little Rock, AR 72223. A reception will follow outside the chapel.
