William Smith, 93, of Topeka, passed away Friday, October 25, 2019.

He was born December 11, 1925, in Huston, Idaho, the son of Homer and Olive (Herman) Smith. William was the nephew of Mr. Al Smith who ran for president in 1935 and along with another gentleman was the creator of the Empire State Building.

William was employed by the US Post Office in Chicago, IL, retiring after 29 years.

Mr. Smith was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church, Topeka.

Survivors include a two children; five siblings, LeRoy Smith, Mable M. Dowell, Garland C. Smith, Cleo B. Lawson, and Harry H. Smith; and good friend, Hud Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

William enjoyed his daily walks at Memorial Park Cemetery with his canary Sweet Sweet and would often sit on the bench singing gospel songs to his bird.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am., Thursday, October 31, 2019 at St. David's Episcopal Church, Topeka. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
