He was born March 27, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the son of Elmer Lee and Lucy Jane (Bruner) Dodson.
He served in the Army during WWII and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force with full honors in 1975. After retiring from the Air Force, Wayne was employed by Washburn University where he did maintenance and HVAC work.
Mr. Dodson was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene
Wayne volunteered at the Air Force Museum Combat Air at Forbes Field in Topeka. He was a member of the Masonic and York Rite Organizations.
Wayne married Patricia A. Dodson on October 30, 1954 in Indianapolis, IN.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Evelyn Atkinson, daughters, Karen Williams, Brenda Dodson, sons, Robert Dodson, David (Deborah) Dodson. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Patricia.
Wayne will lie in state from 3:00 to 5:00 pm Friday, September 13, 2019 at the Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel. Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Penwell Gabel Midtown Chapel. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens located at 820 SW Auburn Road in Topeka.
Following the burial, there will be a luncheon at the First Church of the Nazarene for everyone in attendance.
