Peggy Ann Black, 66, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019.
She was born September 1, 1952, in Marysville, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Ila (Stanberry) Lempka. She graduated from Sterling High School and furthered her education be receiving her Bachelor's Degree from Washburn University in psychology.
She was employed by the State Of Kansas working as a Veteran Representative.
She was a very active member at Temple Beth Sholom. She was involved on the Adult Education Committee and the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom. Repairing books at the Temple was something that she was passionate about as well as being a part of the Blintze Brunch. She was the Co-Chair for Adult Education and helped with the Mitzvah (caring) Committee.
She was a woman who loved to cook; her specialty was her chicken and noodles and potato salad. She loved to quilt and sew; particularly clothing. She enjoyed reading Jewish books and watching any and all Jewish movies. She also had a love for old country music. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
She also served at the past secretary and treasurer for DAV (Disabled American Veterans). Her passion for the military came from her time spent serving in the Air Force.
Peggy married Harlan Black on December 15, 1984 in Topeka, Kansas, he survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Sarah (Anthony) Roth; step-children, Leslie Black and Manolito Black; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nancy (Ahmed) Ktiyeb, Janet (Dean) Fisser, Bill (Teresa) Stanberry, Bob (Gail) Stanberry, Mari (Russ) Fangmeyer, Ray Lempka, Bryan (Crystal) Lempka; brother-in-law, Harley Black and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Hannah Marie Black who passed away in 1986 and step-dad, Raymond Lempka.
A Funeral Ceremony will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 19, 2019 at the Temple Beth Sholom, 4200 SW Munson, Topeka. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, in Topeka.
