John A. Guntert, 63, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at his residence.

He was born August 7, 1955, in Topeka KS, the son of Robert and Veneta (Kump) Guntert.

He will always be remembered for his special love he held dear to his family, especially his brother David. John had a blissful spirit, he enjoyed making people laugh, his loving spirit constantly shined in whatever he was saying or doing despite his physical illness. John loved people clearly, although he was a resident of Sheltered Living, it never felt like you were taking care of a client, it felt like you were just helping your “brother”.

John made many friends in his 43 years at TARC Industries and TARC Day Services. His caring ways made him easy to like and his smile made everyone’s day. He never forgot people’s names and loved to flirt. He kissed the hands of many lady friends throughout his life. He loved to spend time with friends at the bowling alley and when he wasn’t bowling he was watching it on TV or playing a bowling video game. He also loved pizza and diet Dr. Pepper until his health wouldn’t allow him to enjoy them. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Teresa Guntert; brother-in-law, Timothy Hearshman; nephews, Jordan S. Guntert, Ehren D. Guntert, and Dan Hearshman; niece, Tayler Guntert; great-nieces, Avery Hearshman, Hayden Hearshman, and Reese Hearshman; and great-nephew, Landon David Guntert. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David R Guntert and sister, Margaret A Hearshman.

A Funeral Ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m. on May 3, 2019 at the Penwell-Gabel - Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas.
