Laura E. Walker, 92, Topeka, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019.

She was born March 28, 1926, in Seymour, Missouri, the second of nine children born to Mack and Hollie (Young) Smith.

Laura was a nurse aide beginning her career at Topeka Convalescent Center. She spent most of her career and retired from St. Francis Hospital. After retirement, she worked for short time at Brewster Place.
Laura was a member of South Knollwood Baptist Church.

On February 26, 1952, she married Leonard H. Walker. He preceded her in death on December 15, 2014.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Leonard W. Walker and great-grandson, Wyatt Vargas.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Randy) Watts, Scranton, KS and Barbara Vargas; three grandchildren, Todd (Jessica) Watts, Matthew (Katlin) Watts and Maura Vargas; three great-grandchildren, Malea Watts, Weston Watts and Kieran Lutz.

Laura was a caretaker first and foremost, as a wife, mother, grandmother and nurse. She loved her kids, grandbabies and great-grandbabies. She enjoyed quilting, canning and cooking, gardening her flowerbeds and loved serving the Lord.

Visitation will begin at 9:30am Friday, March 8, 2019 at South Knollwood Baptist Church, with funeral services to follow at 10:30am. Burial will be at Rochester Cemetery.
