I was employed at Brewster when I first met Miss Ruth. We spent a lot of time together, reading, and looking over her accomplishments. One day, she decided she wanted to stand and continue to walk. Noticing her undying spirit, we started to walk to and from wherever we went. She got really good with her walker for a while and I was right there with her, when she was ready. I am so sorry for such a tremendous loss and what a blessing she lived to love for so long. My condolences to Ruth's family and closest friends. She truly was special and I am so blessed to have been able to spend time with her.

I send my love to the extended Lawson family. I have such fond memories of Sunday gatherings at the Lawson home and Mrs. Lawson's beautiful Christmas letter every year.

Ruth Lawson was smart, funny, kind, stylish, and ahead of her time. She and Dr. Lawson raised such a wonderful family. Becca, John, Tom, Pete, and Dan, and spouses, I'm very sad to hear of your mom's passing. I have many good memories of her, mostly at your house and at swim meets. May you find peace and healing.

Becca, Dan, Tom, Pete and John--
Losing Ruth and Sue so close together makes this holiday season really tough. Please know you're all in my prayers and I share your heartache.
I have such fond memories of Sunday mornings at 1st Congregational, followed by lunch at the Lawson house. Lots of kids and activity but none of it flustered Ruth. I always loved the way she carried off her beautiful turquoise jewelry.
Love to you all,

To The Ruth Lawson Family,
Don and I want to express our sympathy on the passing of your mom. Words say very little at a time like this, but knowing family and friends are thinking of you maybe helps. We hope so. Always enjoyed your mom, when you were swimmers, at 1st Church for many activities, at Ward Meade and the museum and just seeing her various places. Don met her many years later, and enjoyed visiting with her too. What a neat mom.
God Bless You all.

Sending my good thoughts and prayers to the family . Ruth was loved by many of the Brewster family.

What a treasure Ruth was to me. I worked at Ward-Meade Park and I was always pleased to see that Ruth was signed up to volunteer for an event. She had the dignity, style and knowledge to host the parties in the "big house", as she referred to the mansion, but the cabin was her domain. I was the paid staff but knew that Ruth was in charge and rightfully so. She taught me how to cook a meal on the hearth but Ruth could prepare, entertain and educate at a hearth dinner all while being very mindful not to catch her skirt on fire. As a recent college graduate and newly married homemaker I tried to glean as much of her unending common sense, hospitality and life skills as I could. Very grateful to have had her as a role model and friend. My thoughts are with her family.

Ruth has always been one of those "most unforgettable" people I have known. She was one of the first to welcome Barbara and me to Topeka when we joined Radiology and Nuclear Medicine in 1971. Warm, outgoing, always a helping hand -- and giver of "frank advice". She shared her home and dinner table and helped find babysitters for our kids.
After Bob died, she continued to give her all to the community volunteering at her church and the historical society as an expert in just about anything you needed help on. Always frank in her opinions, too.
She is missed. She was a pioneer spirit, loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
