Bethuelle M. “Beth” Snook, 94, of Topeka, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018.

She was born February 29, 1924, in Axtell, Kansas, the daughter of Archie L. and Marie (Kreth) Cornelius. She was a graduate of Summerfield High School, Summerfield, Kansas and Stewart’s Beauty School in Topeka.

Beth worked for Vanity Fair from 1947 to 1952 and owned and operated the Gay’s Beauty Shop from 1952 to 1987. She worked at Marge’s Beauty Salon from 1987 until retiring in 2005. In her 63 years of cosmetology she belonged to National Hairdresser and Cosmetology Association and held offices in state and local levels of cosmetology.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women in Priscilla’s Group and quilters group. She was a former member of the Cake Arts Club of Topeka, FCE, Arab Shrine Sewing Committee and Arab Nobelle’s group.

Beth was married Cecil Swatzell. To this union a son, Robert Lee Swatzell was born. They divorced. She married Edward M. Snook on June 13, 1953 in Topeka. They celebrated 58 years until his death on October 3, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Lee Swatzell; a great-grandson, Riley Brand; and three siblings, LaVon H. Lord, Wylie K. Cornelius and Archie J. Cornelius.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Christi Brand, Fairbanks, AK, Shelli (Sean) Snethen, Williamsburg, KS, Shalisa Fralick, Reno, NV and Paul (Amber) Swatzell, Lawton, OK; eight great-grandchildren, Dustin (Tiffany) Brand, Jessica (Jerry) Johnson, Jacob Stahl, Lyric and Aria Swatzell and Julia, Ian and Justus Fralick; four great-great grandchildren, Shawnathen Brand-Rhodes, Raylee, Kaylin and Roland Johnson; a brother, Kay L. (Nancy) Cornelius, Ft. Worth, TX; several nieces and nephews including, Nancy Lord of Topeka.

Beth enjoyed having a birthday every four years, spending time with family and friends, quilting, sewing, cake decorating and volunteering.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Klasse Chapel at First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd., Topeka, KS 66603. Interment will follow at Topeka Cemetery.

Mrs. Snook will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
