In Memory Of
Norman J. Furse
1942 - 2018

Norman J. Furse, loving husband and father of two children, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at the age of 76.

He was born March 4, 1942, in Horton, Kansas, the son of Norman and Edna (Garner) Furse. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Washburn University, graduating summa cum lade, in 1964; Juris Doctorate in 1967; and completed his NDEA Fellowship in Political Science at the University of Kansas in 1969. Norman spent 49 years as an attorney for State of Kansas Revisor of Statues Office, where he served as Revisor of Statues for 17 years and most recently, as Revisor Emeritus.

Norman married the love of his life, Sharon Ellis on August 21, 1966, in Topeka, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include two children, Chris (Meghan) Furse and Lizabeth Furse; along with six grandchildren: Isabella, Alec, Nicholas, Francesca, Theodora, and Hudson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Norman enjoyed a life filled with strawberry cake; chess matches; voracious reading of every type, including Native American mystery novels; sports, including his love of Jayhawk basketball, Chief’s football, and Royal’s baseball; and, of course, his passion for, and deep connection with, animals of all types, but most especially with that of dogs and cats. More than anything though, he loved his family.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior at Mount Hope Cemetery, Funeral Chapel and Reception Center, 4700 SW 17th St. Topeka, KS. The family will host a reception following the interment in the Mount Hope Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harvesters, 215 SE Quincy St, Topeka, KS 66603 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
