Darlene was born January 11, 1925 in Herington, KS, the daughter of Henry and Clara Will. She graduated from Herington High School in 1943. During World War II, Darlene worked as a clerk typist at the Supply Depot at the Herington and Garden City air base. In 1947, she married Marvin K. Self. After raising their four children, she began working for the State of Kansas and retired as an office supervisor.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Marvin K. Self of 46 years; son, James Self; daughter-in-law, Julia Saenz, brothers, Ralph Will and Kenneth Will; sister, Catherine Will Yoder and brother-in-law, Frank Yoder.
Survivors include children Marvin Jr. (Vicki) Self, David (Jody) Self and Susan (Bill) Hamilton; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving is sister, Virginia C. Will and sisters-in-law Geneva Will and Faye Will.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Presbyterian Manor, 4712 SW 6th, Topeka, KS 66606 or to Great Lakes Caring 3715 SW 29th Street STE 100 Topeka, KS 66614.
A private family burial at West Lawn Memorial Gardens will take place at a later date.
