Willis L. Bender, Sr., 89, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 2, 1929 in Maple Hill, KS to Clyde and Vida (Loveland) Bender.

Following his education he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 and was stationed in England, Japan, and Libya. He retired in July 1970 after 20 years of service to his country.

He married Patsy Bell on April 10, 1954 in Cameron, TX. She survives. Other survivors include daughters, Billie Tabor, Vickie Hane, Diana James (Tim); son, Willis Bender, Jr. (Debbie); siblings, Karel Gassen, Kathleen Michaels, (Albert); nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, and boating. He loved being outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6th and Gage, Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street NW, Washington,DC 20006-3517.
