James Marvin Sunderman, son of the late Robert H. and Eva Brashear Sunderman was born December 27, 1944 in Horton, KS and died February 9, 2018 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS at the age of 73.

On September 27,2008 he married Sherry Elaine Blede at Countryside United Methodist Church where he was a member.

Survivors include his wife Sherry Sunderman of the home. He had two sons, Cory Sunderman and wife Leslie of Topeka, Michael Burlison and wife Teshia and one daughter, Angela Hall and husband Larry of Wichita, six grandchildren, Ethan Hall of Wichita, Jessie and Zoe Sunderman of Topeka and Braden, Alyssa and Brandi Burlison of Topeka.

He was a Hiawatha High School graduate and attended Highland Community College.

Specialist 5th class E5 Sunderman served with the 25th Infantry Division, 130th Artillery, HQ Survey 82C20 in Hiawatha, KS and served in Cuche, Vietnam, 1968-69.

Upon returning from Vietnam he began working for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka, KS, retiring on May 1, 2005 with 38 years of service.

Jim belonged to Orient Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M., Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies and was a member of the Provost Guard, Arab Shrine Temple of Topeka, KS.

Jim loved to travel with his beloved wife Sherry to Estes Park, Colorado every year before his health failed. He dearly loved the mountains.

He dearly loved his grandchildren and and the family cat "Jake" as well as all sports but especially KU basketball.

He loved his wife with all his heart and loved the Lord. He always wanted his Bible beside him on his bed at all times.

James will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Penwell Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW. 10th Ave, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 16 at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW. Burlingame Rd., Topeka. Burial with Masonic and full military honors will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
