Shirley Jean Best

Shirley Jean Best, 82, Scranton, died Sunday, February 4, 2018, at her home. She was born March 6, 1935, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Loyd Ray and Irene Iva (Barnard) Angel.

She lived in Oskaloosa before moving to Scranton in 1989. She was a member of Cross Road Community Church.

Shirley was married to Bennie D. Best, Sr. on February 26, 1953, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1997.

Surviving are five children: Bennie D. Best, Jr. of Carbondale, Bobi Best of Scranton, Beverly Cook of Topeka, Brenda Best of Scranton, and Barbara Best-Flickinger (Matthew McClain) of Burlingame; siblings: Lona Phillips of Topeka, Ray Angel of Kansas City, KS, and Marita Church (Walter) of Kansas City, KS; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 2 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM, Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Cross Road Community Church. Interment will be in Scranton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, Thursday, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Road Community Church, 512 South Mason, Scranton, KS 66537.
