John Arthur “Art” Holt, 84, Topeka, died Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was born March 24, 1933, at Elmont, the son of Benton Theodore and Thelma Marie (Bartram) Holt.
Art graduated from Seaman High School in 1951. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Art worked for the Kansas Department of Agriculture for 43 years.
He was married to Helen Caroline Schlodder on June 29, 1958, in Topeka.
Surviving are his wife, Helen, of the home; three children: Charles Holt (Colette), David Holt (Janell) and Carolyn Schiefelbein (Craig) all of Topeka; a sister: Evelyn Hrenchir (Walter) of Topeka; five grandchildren: Jennifer Winchell (Brian) of Topeka, C.J. Holt of Topeka, Cody Holt of Topeka, Elizabeth Calvo (Robert) of Germany, and Rachel Schiefelbein of Wichita; and six great-grandchildren: Karmyn Holt, Landyn Holt, Ava Winchell, Logan Winchell, Nate Winchell, and Lucas Calvo.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th, Topeka. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Art will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wednesday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
