Charlene graduated from Berryton High School and attended Washburn University. She taught school in Carbondale and North Fairview School in Shawnee County. She and her husband farmed in Valley Falls.
Charlene married George E. Shepard on August 15, 1948 in the E.U.B. Church at Richland. He survives. Other survivors include their children, Nancy (Jerry Senne) Shepard, Larry (Sue) Shepard, Tom Shepard, Mike (Dawn) Shepard, Becky Shepard and Sallie (Tom) Meyer, 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and her sister, Joan (Rod) Ramsey.
Charlene was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Baughman, grandson, Todd S. Golder and daughter-in-law, Ramona “Susie” Shepard.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Meals on Wheels, 2701 SW East Circle Drive South, Ste. 2, Topeka, Kansas 66606 or Friends of Hospice of Jefferson County, 1212 Walnut St., Oskaloosa, Kansas 66066.
