Jack E. Wright passed away on Saturday January 24, 2015.

Born on January 27, 1923 in Watsontown, Pennsylvania, he was the last of 13 children born to Chris and Kathryn(Muffley)Wright. After graduation from Watsontown High School in 1940, Jack served during WWII in England as a navigator on a B24 with the 448 Bomber Group, 8th AF (1944-45). He received his BFA in 1949 from Carnegie Tech University in Pittsburgh, PA and his MFA from the New York College of Ceramics at Alfred in 1951. Jack married fellow artist, Rebecca (Rinearson) Wright, in 1952. From 1957 to 1988 he was Professor of Fine Art at Washburn University.

He is remembered as an influential and inspiring teacher. He left an enduring legacy of beauty and craftsmanship in the bowls, jars, pitchers and pots that are cherished and used by people across the country.

Jack is survived by his 4 daughters: Sarah (Tom) Hughes; Elizabeth "Betsy" (Mark Tyler) Millard; Abigail (Tobias) Schlingensiepen; Caitlin (Michael) Almond, his 11 grandchildren AJ, Andrew, Ann & Allison Buckland; Jephthah, Marah, Benaja & Ephraim Schlingensiepen; Eric & Hannah Almond; Sam Hughes and 7 great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, or Midland Hospice Grief Care.
