Dr. Charles Litz, 78, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Midland Hospice House.
Dr. Litz was born January 28, 1936, the son of Henry and Lucille (Patterson) Litz. He graduated from Washington Court House, Ohio High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He received his undergraduate from Ohio University and his Master’s and Doctorate from the University of Michigan.
He was a Professor of History and Philosophy in the College of Education at Kansas State University for 33 years. Dr. Litz history at Kansas State will live on through the publication, Educational Considerations, which he began in 1973, and continues today. Dr. Litz is honored in this publication as Professor Emeritus.
He lived life to its fullest with a passion for Education and History. He will always be remembered for his love of dogs, especially their beloved bulldogs, Churchill, Molly, Victoria, Benny and Rory. He was an avid reader, always enjoyed listening to major league baseball on the radio, and the sounds of Classical music, as well as writing his beloved letters and cards to friends and family.
Charles married Madelyn “Sally” Howell on August 31, 1973 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include sister, Patty Cox, 1 son, 1 aunt, 4 brother-in-laws, 1 sister-in-law; and 11 nieces and nephews.
We close with his lifelong mission: Semper Fidelis, always faithful, Semper Fi.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Private family inurnment will take place at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, Topeka Rescue Mission or Midland Care.
