Marcia Louise Payne

Marcia Louise Payne, daughter of Bryan and Ida Marthina (Paul) Elkin was born and reared on a farm southeast of Lyndon, KS, August 19, 1935. She entered into rest on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.

She attended a rural grade school and graduated from Melvern, KS High School.

Marcia worked six years on the staff of two farm magazines, Kansas Farmer and Missouri Ruralist, at Capper Publications. She retired in 1990, as a Division Secretary in the Network Services Department, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company at Topeka with over 32 years of service.

Marcia attended East Side Baptist Church and is currently a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She is also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She was united in marriage to Robert L. Payne in 1959, at a small country church southeast of Lyndon. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2011.

Marcia is survived by two sons: Robert B. Payne (Diane K.) of Topeka and Troy R Payne (Patricia) of Meriden; five grandchildren: Hannah McIntyre, Megan Christopherson, Joshua Christopherson, Trevor Payne, and Whitney Payne; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 29, 2014, at Bethel Baptist Church, 4011 North Kansas Avenue, Topeka, KS 66617. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Avenue, Topeka.

Marcia will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Sunday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:30 PM.
