He was born July 2, 1927 in Havensville, KS, the son of Herbert A. and Myrtle (Chilson) Post. He was a graduate of Havensville High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from July 27, 1945 until being honorably discharged July 27, 1946.
Mr. Post was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring after 34 years of service.
He was a member of the Rubber Workers Labor Union Local No. 307. He was a 36 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Wilbur married Marilyn Hittle on December 27, 1947. They were divorced. He later married Ernesta E. Akins on October 29, 1971 in Oskaloosa, KS. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Cheryl (Franklin) Peuker, Topeka; three granddaughters, Rachel (Yancey) Stolzenberger, Kimberly Cobb and Belinda (Doug) Diekhoff; seven great-granddaughters; a great-grandson; a step grandson; a sister, Dorothy Clements, Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two step-sons, David and Mitchell Davison and two sisters, Thelma McKee and Karen Post.
A funeral ceremony will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Wilbur will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. A graveside service will be 3 p.m., Wednesday at the America City Cemetery, North of Havensville, KS.
