James “Redbone” Smith, 59, of Topeka, went to be with his Lord on Monday, November 10, 2014. He was born November 16, 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of John Samuel and Anna Luarks Smith. James attended Topeka public schools.
He was employed by the City of Topeka and Skinner’s Nursery.

James married Sherry Poe. Survivors include two sons, Eric Poe and Michael Poe and one daughter, April (Cindy), several grandchildren and his siblings, Barbara George of Atlanta, Georgia, Alonzo Smith of Topeka, Vernon Smith of Topeka and Tammy Smith of Topeka and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John S. Smith and Willie G. Smith.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
