Gracie “Inez” Balsters, 91, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014.

She was born October 23, 1923 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the daughter of Jessie Wayne and Eula Ann (Pierce) Meeks. She was a graduate of Rayville High School in Rayville, LA, and later graduated from Clark’s Business College in Topeka.

Mrs. Balsters was employed by Santa Fe Railroad and later worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Richard Othmer and Dr. Dale Dickson in Topeka.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Beulah Chapter No. 34 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Inez married Robert O. Balsters on June 8, 1945 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1986. Survivors include Robert O. (Susan) Balsters II, Ron (Lisa) Balsters, and Karla Balsters, all of Topeka; four grandchildren, Beau, Brooke, John and Ryan; and a brother, Joe (LaVerne) Meeks, Rayville, LA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, Pat Meeks, Mavis Fortenberry, Eva Norwood, Sara Hale, Isa Jean Hale, Ida Wayne Middleton and Jerry Meeks.

Inez enjoyed exercising with friends at the YWCA in Topeka, watching her grandchildren play sports, gardening, baking and cooking.

A funeral ceremony will be 11 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Private interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
