Betty B. Knoblock
1929 - 2014

Betty Owen Knoblock, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2014 in Topeka, KS where she lived with her son Jim and his wife Jane. She was born Betty Joan Blatt on March 18, 1929 in St. Louis, MO, and was the daughter of Edwin Carl Blatt and Bertha Beattie Blatt.

Betty graduated from Webster Groves High School and attended Iowa State University before pursuing a nursing degree at Washington University in St. Louis. She was a head nurse at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis where she met her future husband, Dr. James Owen, Jr. They were married May 15, 1952. She suspended her nursing career to become a full-time mother and volunteer. They moved to Bartlesville, OK in 1963, where she was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and was president of the Service League. She enjoyed volunteering at school, playing golf and bridge, and was an avid reader up until the time of her death, participating in several book clubs. Several years after the death of her husband, she eloped and married Richard Knoblock of Tulsa, OK on March 18, 1996. Among other things, they enjoyed travel, University of Tulsa sports, and visiting family. As Richard was a long-time private pilot, she even learned to land a plane. After his death in April 2014, she moved to Topeka to live with Jim and Jane. She was a devoted wife and mother, a great friend to many, and a gracious hostess to all.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Edwin and Bertha Blatt; her first husband, Dr. James Wilson Owen, Jr.; her second husband, Richard N. Knoblock; and her brother, Robert Blatt.

Her surviving family includes her three sons, Jim Owen of Topeka, Kansas and his wife Jane; John Owen of New Canaan, Connecticut and his wife Laurie; and David Owen of Dallas, Texas; and three daughters from her second marriage, Jane Hoover of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and her husband Jim; Susan Suggs of Tyler, Texas, and her husband Jerry; and Trish Goldsand of Scottsdale, Arizona, and her husband Rich. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church 505 S.E. Dewey, Bartlesville, Oklahoma on November 18, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Midland Care Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to the First Presbyterian Church in Bartlesville.
