Dr. Francisco Juan Blanco Mangahas, 52, of Topeka, Kansas passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014.

He was born August 1, 1962 in Quezon City, Philippines, the son of Dr. Cayetano and Josefa (Blanco) Mangahas. He received his medical degree in 1988 from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines. He served his internship in Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago, IL and later completed his residency in Internal Medicine in St. John’s Hospital in Queens, New York. He practiced Internal Medicine in New Orleans, LA for 15 years and in Myrtle Beach, SC until relocating to Topeka in 2011.

Dr. Mangahas was a physician for the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas for three years.

He is survived by his father, Dr. Cayetano, Quezon City, Philippines; his sister, Jeannene M. (Dr. Gregory C.) Yang, Tucson, AZ; his brother, Dr. Edmund B. (Dr. Susan A.) Mangahas, Northbrook, IL; two nephews, Tommy (Ana) Yang and Alex Yang; a niece, Angelica Mangahas; great-nephew, Nathan Yang; and a great-niece, Ava Yang. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Dr. Mangahas was an avid sports fan.

Dr. Mangahas was cremated. A memorial mass will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2014 at the All Faiths Chapel in Building 23 at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center, 220 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS 66622. A reception will follow at Hawley Auditorium , Building 1 Room C 114.

A visitation will be on December 20, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Retiro St. Q.C.

A memorial Mass will be December 21, 2014, at Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, Daily Mirror St. Q.C. with burial to follow.
