Linda Marie Shepard Young, 70, Topeka, left these earthly bounds on October 11, 2014.

Linda was born October 26, 1943 in Lawrence, the daughter of John Wesley and Margaret B. (White) Shepard, Sr.

She graduated from Lawrence High School and attended both Kansas University and Washburn University, receiving an Associate Degree in Accounting.

She worked in banking before accepting a position with the State Treasurer. She was promoted to Deputy State Treasurer, retiring in 1991.

She was a member of El Shaddai Ministries Community Church. She was an avid bowler, bowling on the Ebonite and the Senior Wheel of Fortune Leagues.

Linda married Richard Young on December 23, 1978 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include her children, Robyn Bruce, Topeka, Robert "Spike" Bruce, Dallas, TX; siblings, Marjorie Shepard, John Shepard, Jr, H.C. Shepard, Stanley Shepard, all of Lawrence, Virginia Shepard, Laurel, MD; grandchildren, Mykell Moore and Miya Bruce; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Albert Shepard.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at El Shaddai Ministries Community Church, 920 SE Sherman. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Linda will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road after 3:00 p.m. on Friday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
