Margaret Katherine Bonnett (Barty), 81, of Berryton, KS, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013.

She was born September 19, 1931 in Luray, KS, the daughter of John Sina and Margaret Katherine (Whitmer) Mayes. She was a graduate of Osborne High School and attended Kansas State University.

Barty was an active member of the Berryton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in addition to enjoying the company of her local community of women in a number of social groups. She was a devoted wife and mother, very committed to spending time with her children and supporting their many interests.

She was an avid crafter, focusing on sewing, needlepoint and quilting with friends at the Berryton Church. She was a member of the Berryton Extension Unit, she volunteered at Berryton Grade School, at the Church and was a Foster Parent from 1973 to 1985. She was known to be a card shark of sorts.

Barty married Lyman Dale Bonnett on February 1, 1957 in Beloit, KS. He survives. Other survivors include her sons, Monte Dale Bonnett of Topeka, Terry Allen Bonnett, his wife Ye Feng Bonnett and their children, Nicholas Monte and Annie Katherine Bonnett of Fishers, IN; a daughter, Stephanie Lynn Bonnett of Kansas City, MO and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the Midwest.

The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, March 6, at the Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Rd, Berryton, KS 66409. Interment will follow at Lynn Creek Cemetery in Berryton. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Easter Seals Capper’s Foundation, 3500 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604. Penwell Gabel SE Chapel is assisting the family.
