Florence “Nada” Cowherd, 80, Topeka, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016.

She was born August 7, 1935, in Blue Rapids, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Mclain) Beasley. Nada graduated from Blue Rapids High School in 1954. In 1955, she earned her cosmetology license from Stewart Beauty Academy. She later was the activities director for Briarcliff Care Center, retiring after 12 years.

Nada married Robert J. Shaw in 1955 and together they had three sons, John, Jim and Jay Shaw. They later divorced. In 1975, she married Bruce B. Cowherd. He preceded her in death in 2006.
Survivors include her sons, Robert J. Shaw, Jr., James J. Shaw, Sr. and Jay B Shaw; sister, Mary Jo (Ron) Cowles and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four siblings.

Funeral services will be 10 am, Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. Nada will lie in state after 3 pm Monday, at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 pm.
