Paul R. Cain, 78, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2016 at a Topeka hospital. He was born April 13, 1938 in Topeka, the son of Ralph and Rebecca Florence (Ice) Cain. He grew up in the Oakland community and graduated from Topeka High School in 1956. He was an Air Force veteran serving with Strategic Air Command from 1956 - 1960.

Paul was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and later with AT&T before retiring after 30 years of service. After retiring, he went to work for the grounds crew at Washburn University. He was a member of Central Church of Christ. He was active with the 9th Texas Civil War reenactors.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Cain (Dave Holden) of Topeka, Rebecca (Mike) Waldron of Kansas City, Missouri, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Paul married Freida Crowley on December 6, 2003 in Topeka. She survives. Survivors include his step-children, Heather Crowley of Topeka, Holly (Barry) Garrison of Topeka, Heidi Crowley of Topeka, Robbie Crowley of Topeka and twelve step-grandchildren all of whom he loved as his own.

Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Cain and his sister, Phyllis Higbee.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Central Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Paul will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Paul R. Cain Memorial Fund c/o Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66605.
